Informed Scotland July/August 2023 – Present & future skills needs
Summer 2023 was a relatively calm one for learning & skills in Scotland, particularly for the school sector. Which was much appreciated by everyone after the hectic period that preceded it and that will no doubt follow.
Reports to highlight include:
- What influences the choices of would-be apprentices? by UCAS and the Sutton Trust
- UK Government analysis of Cyber Security Skills in the UK Labour Market
- Bright Futures by City & Guilds and EngineeringUK on the skills needed to ‘decarbonise’ the energy workforce
- the 2023 SQA exam results and attainment statistics
- a survey of graduates and business leaders on the benefits of a university experience by Universities Scotland and Jobs of the Future by Universities UK on the growing need for graduates in the workplace
- and a Goodison Group in Scotland/Scotland’s Futures Forum report on Artificial Intelligence and Education, a good companion read to this year’s UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report which sets out quite firm recommendations on Technology in Education.
There was also the usual statistical reports and annual surveys, including on the participation of 16–19 year-olds in education, training & employment, the educational outcomes for looked after children, university applicants, higher education students & qualifiers and widening access.
